And MoveOn responds...

THANK YOU, CONNECTICUT VOTERS!!!

Dear MoveOn member in Connecticut,

I wanted to share the results from our online primary with you before we tell the media. Drumroll, please: By a whopping 85% to 14%, MoveOn members supported Ned Lamont for Connecticut's U.S. Senate seat—securing him the MoveOn endorsement.

Now that we've decided together to support Lamont, please consider making a contribution to his campaign by clicking on the link below. Senator Lieberman has a war chest of over $4.2 million—so Ned will need all of our help to wage a good campaign. Can you chip in a few bucks to help elect a new Democratic senator for Connecticut?

https://secure.nedlamont.com/page/contribute

You can also sign up to volunteer for Ned Lamont on his website at the link above.

Your endorsement of Ned Lamont means that we'll raise money for him and help get folks out to the polls for the August 8th primary. We'll bring some national focus to the race as well. But how well he does in August will depend largely on our Connecticut members. Now's the time to get involved.

So why did the vote come out the way we did? Here are a few representative comments that illustrate what we heard from a lot of you:

"I do not see that Senator Lieberman actually cares about Connecticut voters. He has treated them with contempt and complacence. I don't have a problem with Democrats who don't vote the party line, but I do have a problem with senators who treat their offices as an entitlement, and this is what Sen. Lieberman seems to be doing."
-Dara from New Haven, CT

"Lamont is exactly the sort of candidate MoveOn should support: a true progressive running against the forces of Beltway conventional wisdom and accommodation of the Radical Right."
-Greg from Watertown, CT

"I'm impressed with the "fresh approach" that Ned Lamont seems to bring to the table. I think that he's correct when he says that the Democratic party needs to stand out from the Republicans (and the "W" administration). At first I was leaning towards Joe Lieberman because I can see that he is an established senator who has many contacts and perhaps has the power of persuasion within Washington, but I'm willing to take a chance on a "new guy" who better fits the voice I'd like represented."
-Meegan from Waterbury, CT

"Ned Lamont articulates my values about Iraq, health care, the environment."
-Marion from Branford, CT

Look for more from us on this race in the weeks ahead. And thanks again for helping MoveOn make this important decision.

Sincerely,

–Eli Pariser

The Senator from CT Responds.....

As promised, I'd said that if I should happen to hear from Senator Nomentum, that I would share his response with you.

Recall that when I wrote him, (see previous three blog entries) I selected from among the topics available on his website, the topic of "Nasa/Space" to test whether or not he does in fact read the mail his constituents, aka employers, send him.

Behold "Joe-in-touch-with-CT Voters" reply. I believe you are capable of forming your own conclusion without any further commentary from me except to say that it looks like I don't need to do any special grocery shopping relative to my dinner invitation.

Ms. Mary ***
West Haven, CT 06516

Dear Ms. ***

Thank you for contacting me with your concerns regarding my record in the
United States Senate.

While I realize that you disagree with my stance on the Iraq war, I want
you to know that I take your concerns very seriously. As you may know, I
have been a consistent supporter of the overthrow of Saddam Hussein since
the end of the 1991 Gulf War; and I continue to believe the United States
and the world will be safer when a functioning and democratic Iraq is
established. However, I do believe the Bush Administration has made
significant mistakes; and I have not hesitated to voice my concerns about
them.

I was first inspired to public service by President John F. Kennedy; and,
throughout my many decades of public service, I have always been guided by
the core values that our party embodies - social justice, equal
opportunity, and tolerance of diversity. As a result, I have voted with
my party in the Senate 90 percent of the time.

I strongly believe the Senate should act in a bipartisan manner when it is
in the best interests of Connecticut and the country. That means being
open to ideas and solutions that I believe will serve my constituents
best, regardless of who else in either party supports them. Important
legislation and priorities often stall in the Senate because partisanship,
on both sides, precludes honest efforts to pass meaningful laws. It is
often necessary to work across party lines to build enough support to pass
legislation that benefits Connecticut.

I regret that you disagree with some of the positions I have taken, but I
appreciate hearing from you; and I hope that you will take the opportunity
to review my full record of service to Connecticut by visiting my web site
at http://lieberman.senate.gov. I believe you will see that I have
consistently supported legislation and issues that reflect the progressive
values of my Connecticut constituents.

My official Senate web site is designed to be an on-line office that
provides access to constituent services, Connecticut-specific information,
and an abundance of information about what I am working on in the Senate
on behalf of Connecticut and the nation. I am also pleased to let you
know that I have launched an email news update service through my web
site. You can sign up for that service by visiting
http://lieberman.senate.gov and clicking on the "Subscribe Email News
Updates" button at the bottom of the home page. I hope these are
informative and useful.

Thank you again for letting me know your views and concerns. Please
contact me if you have any additional questions or comments about our work
in Congress.

Chickenhawk Lieberman Flies MoveOn's Coup

Bawk bawk bawk bawk bawk...oh, Joe, where ARE you? You were going to be in MoveOn's primary this week along with Ned Lamont and now I see you've dropped out? Are you taking your toy soldiers and going home? What kind of behavior is that! Or is it unwillingness to face your inevitable defeat on the national scene...an organization with lots of bang for their buck? Or maybe you're getting ready to call me or come visit me? What's the gig, Senator? I was sooo looking forward to clicking you off into oblivion when I voted and now you're off pouting somewhere? Maybe you'd better rethink your decision. First of all, it sure makes me question what kind of "Decider" you are and what kind of poor advice you're getting and secondly, it really does make you look a tad more limp and passe.

So, as far as I'm concerned, Ned Lamont needs to receive MoveOn's endorsement and I think we know what that means, right Senator?

Opinion
Joe Lieberman's Very Bad Year
The Nation Tue May 23, 2:18 PM ET

The Nation --
Joe Lieberman's year just keeps getting worse.

After he emerged as just about the only member of Congress -- Democrat or Republican -- who is enthusiastically on board for the Bush administration's hellride in Iraq, local Democratic party groups in Connecticut began passing resolutions criticizing the Democratic senator's pro-war stance.

Lieberman and his aides said the grassroots Dems were just letting off steam.

Then, the senator attracted an able Democratic primary challenger in the person of progressive businessman Ned Lamont.

Lieberman's organization said Lamont would never get on the ballot.

Then, at the state Democratic convention over the weekend, Lamont got more than twice as many votes as he needed to secure a ballot position.

Lieberman backers noted that their man got the most votes at the convention and said the inside-the-party revolt would not translate into trouble in the August 8 Democratic primary.

Now, Democracy for America, the organization formed from the base of
Howard Dean's 2004 campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination -- which, notably, did a lot better than Lieberman's presidential quest of that year -- has given a strong endorsement to Lamont's challenge.

"Ned Lamont has been loud and clear about America's position in Iraq and world affairs, one of the most important concerns for voters," says Jim Dean, the chair of Democracy for America, and the brother of the man who now heads the Democratic National Committee. "Senator Lieberman has been a broken record supporting broken policies."

While the Democracy for America endorsement will help with fund raising and volunteers, it certainly isn't going to give Lamont everything he needs to win a primary. By every measure, the challenger still faces an uphill race in a state where Lieberman has been a central figure in the Democratic Party for four decades.

But the senator is feeling the heat. On Monday, he dropped out of the MoveOn.org web primary, in which members of the group are being asked to express their preference in the race -- as they did early in the race for the 2004 Democratic presidential nod. No one doubted that he was seeking to avoid another setback.

Nor does anyone doubt that the man the Democrats nominated for vice president in 2000, and who looked at the start of the year like a sure bet for reelection, is going to have to fight to be the party's nominee for his own seat in 2006.

Reply from Joementum!

As you may recall, in my last post, I purposefully sent it to Holy Joe's website where you are given options to select a topic. Purposefully again, I posted my letter/invitation to him under the topic "Nasa/Space" because if you read that post, surely you'd agree that there could be no "appropriate" topic - but more importantly, I hoped to prove once and for all that Senator Connected to Connecticut absolutely does NOT read his email. We're not all the way there yet but below is the first indication that dinosaurs DO live! I anxiously await his next reply!

Dear Joe Posted Under Your Nasa/Space Topic...

CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW? I thought this would be a fitting "issue" to select since I would imagine by now that you're feeling a bit on the edge of outer space given last night's MESSAGE to you from those of us who tried to tell you.

I wrote you and called you to the point it became almost a part time job for me, studying your votes, your positions and your behaviors as the so-called "Democratic" senator from CT. I TOLD your staff repeatedly that you had a big surprise coming to you with the grassroots practically delivering it to your doorstep.

You didn't listen and last night, you got the first evidence of our power - did you like it?

War, Senator, yes, that IS your biggest issue - you, the one who so cavalierly embraced(s) this disgrace to all of humanity. Alito, remember him? Remember how you voted? Remember how you stood up and APPLAUDED your friend, Governor bush as he lied his way again through the State of the Union address, a yearly event he couldn't even name??? I'm not even going to touch "the kiss." That's more of a Mafiosa kind of thing and if I know one thing, it's that you're certainly not Italian.

I'll tell you my final straw, Senator, not that I really had any misgivings about supporting Ned Lamont, because contrary to your thinking, this IS the issue. Everything else trickles down from there. What made me ravenously hungry to see you ousted though, was your now famous position re women needing ER services following rape or sexual trauma.

As a registered nurse, I'll tell you quite frankly that you made me PUKE when you advised women to toddle right along to the next hospital who would treat them - WHO ARE YOU TO DETERMINE THE PROFESSIONAL CODE OF ETHICS THAT MANDATES THAT WE ADMIT AND TREAT ALL PEOPLE THE SAME, REGARDLESS OF GENDER, CONDITION, RACE OR FAITH??? That, Senator, was the tolling of the bell for you among women and healthcare professionals - though I must admit that your Terri Schiavo position was dastardly as well. Oh, I could write an entire book about you had I the space and time AND keep in mind, as I've told you before when you weren't listening, YOU WERE THE VERY FIRST DEMOCRAT I EVER WORKED FOR AS A TEENAGER. How in the world do you think I feel looking at the sham you've made of all our hard work?

You're no environmentalist - I saw you get on board the Long Island blow torch in the Sound long after movement had started. Just another photo-op. Just another political calculation. You present yourself as Mr. Nice Guy but you know what, Senator? You're not a very nice guy at all. What you ARE is a traitor to our beloved Democratic Party and your history with the DLC believe me is not unnoticed. We stupid grassroots people DO know how to connect the dots..surprised? We've been watching you the whole time.

Money is your God, Senator and we know it. How much is sushi a pound these days? I don't know...I can't afford it. And if nothing else was made clear to you last night, it ought to be the power of the NON-CT bloggers you summarily dismissed.

I'll tell you what, Senator, I'll make you a deal. Call me. I dare you. I've left my name and number so many times I can't even count now but here it is anyway...***-****. If you had even one ounce of creativity, you might even consider attempting to woo one of my kind...remember us? The ones who PUT you there? I know you're counting on big money, particularly from your pet defense manufacturers and your buddies from Big Pharma. But guess what, Senator? YOU WORK FOR ME. FOR US. FOR THIS COUNTRY. FOR THE PROTECTION OF OUR PITIFUL CONSTITUTION YOU HAVE GIVEN PIECES AWAY OF AS THOUGH THEY WERE HOLIDAY DREIDELS. AND I SAY NO. NO MORE. ENOUGH. I'M DISGUSTED AND I VOW TO YOU AGAIN THAT I WILL WORK 24/7 TO ASSURE THAT NED LAMONT, a REAL Democrat, will be the standard bearer who has the guts to stand up to the evil of this administration in truth, integrity, commitment and REAL patriotism.

So, come on, Senator...give me a call. Let's see if you have the same qualities referred to above. We'll chat and I'll tell you what I need from you as a Democrat, a wife, a mother, a nurse and a HUMAN BEING.

Something tells me I don't need to sit by the phone.

Freedom IS on the march and our goal is one thing. LIBERATION FROM LIEBERMAN. We are TAKING OUR COUNTRY BACK!!! COUNT ON IT!!!

To be fair, I'm giving you notice that I am posting this on my blog. And should you call me, I will also post it on my blog. Now that I think of it, why don't you come on over here and sit with me a while...I know you like diners, I'll even feed you, ok?

Greg Palast to the rescue...AGAIN!

Ordinarily, I much prefer to write my own blog but sometimes, only a highly esteemed and well respected REAL journalist can present the critical information YOU need to know...thus, thank you to Greg Palast for once again, being ahead of the pack.

The Times and USA Today have Missed the Bigger Story -- Again
By Greg Palast

05/12/06 -"ICH" - -I know you're shocked -- SHOCKED! -- that George Bush is listening in on all your phone calls. Without a warrant. That's nothing. And it's not news.

This is: the snooping into your phone bill is just the snout of the pig of a strange, lucrative link-up between the Administration's Homeland Security spy network and private companies operating beyond the reach of the laws meant to protect us from our government. You can call it the privatization of the FBI -- though it is better described as the creation of a private KGB.

The leader in the field of what is called "data mining," is a company, formed in 1997, called, "ChoicePoint, Inc," which has sucked up over a billion dollars in national security contracts.

Worried about Dick Cheney listening in Sunday on your call to Mom? That ain't nothing. You should be more concerned that they are linking this info to your medical records, your bill purchases and your entire personal profile including, not incidentally, your voting registration. Five years ago, I discovered that ChoicePoint had already gathered 16 billion data files on Americans -- and I know they've expanded their ops at an explosive rate.

They are paid to keep an eye on you -- because the FBI can't. For the government to collect this stuff is against the law unless you're suspected of a crime. (The law in question is the Constitution.) But ChoicePoint can collect if for "commercial" purchases -- and under the Bush Administration's suspect reading of the Patriot Act -- our domestic spying apparatchiks can then BUY the info from ChoicePoint.

Who ARE these guys selling George Bush a piece of you?

ChoicePoint's board has more Republicans than a Palm Beach country club. It was funded, and its board stocked, by such Republican sugar daddies as billionaires Bernie Marcus and Ken Langone -- even after Langone was charged by the Securities Exchange Commission with abuse of inside information.

I first ran across these guys in 2000 in Florida when our Guardian/BBC team discovered the list of 94,000 "felons" that Katherine Harris had ordered removed from Florida's voter rolls before the election. Virtually every voter purged was innocent of any crime except, in most cases, Voting While Black. Who came up with this electoral hit list that gave Bush the White House? ChoicePoint, Inc.

And worse, they KNEW the racially-tainted list of felons was bogus. And when we caught them, they lied about it. While they've since apologized to the NAACP, ChoicePoint's ethnic cleansing of voter rolls has been amply assuaged by the man the company elected.

And now ChoicePoint and George Bush want your blood. Forget your phone bill. ChoicePoint, a sickened executive of the company told us in confidence, "hope[s] to build a database of DNA samples from every person in the United States ...linked to all the other information held by CP [ChoicePoint]" from medical to voting records.

And ChoicePoint lied about that too. The company publicly denied they gave DNA to the Feds -- but then told our investigator, pretending to seek work, that ChoicePoint was "the number one" provider of DNA info to the FBI.

"And that scares the hell out of me," said the executive (who has since left the company), because ChoicePoint gets it WRONG so often. We are not contracting out our Homeland Security to James Bond here. It's more like Austin Powers, Inc. Besides the 97% error rate in finding Florida "felons," Illinois State Police fired the company after discovering ChoicePoint had produced test "results" on rape case evidence ... that didn't exist. And ChoicePoint just got hit with the largest fine in Federal Trade Commission history for letting identity thieves purchase 145,000 credit card records.

But it won't stop, despite Republican senators shedding big crocodile tears about "surveillance" of innocent Americans. That's because FEAR is a lucrative business -- not just for ChoicePoint, but for firms such as Syntech, Sybase and Lockheed-Martin -- each of which has provided lucrative posts or profits to connected Republicans including former Total Information Awareness chief John Poindexter (Syntech), Marvin Bush (Sybase) and Lynn Cheney (Lockheed-Martin).

But how can they get Americans to give up our personal files, our phone logs, our DNA and our rights? Easy. Fear sells better than sex -- and they want you to be afraid. Back to today's New York Times, page 28: "Wider Use of DNA Lists is Urged in Fighting Crime." And who is providing the technology? It comes, says the Times, from the work done on using DNA fragments to identity victims of the September 11 attack. And who did that job (for $12 million, no bid)? ChoicePoint, Inc. Which is NOT mentioned by the Times.

"Genetic surveillance would thus shift from the individual [the alleged criminal] to the family," says the Times -- which will require, of course, a national DNA database of NON-criminals.

It doesn't end there. Turn to the same newspaper, page 23, with a story about a weird new law passed by the state of Georgia to fight illegal immigration. Every single employer and government agency will be required to match citizen or worker data against national databases to affirm citizenship. It won't stop illegal border crossing, but hey, someone's going to make big bucks on selling data. And guess what local boy owns the data mine? ChoicePoint, Inc., of Alpharetta, Georgia.

The knuckleheads at the Times don't put the three stories together because the real players aren't in the press releases their reporters re-write.

But that's the Fear Industry for you. You aren't safer from terrorists or criminals or "felon" voters. But the national wallet is several billion dollars lighter and the Bill of Rights is a couple amendments shorter.

And that's their program. They get the data mine -- and we get the shaft.

Dear Mrs. Bush...

Dear Mrs. Bush -

You are a mother. I am a mother. I know what it is to lose a child through death. And through that knowledge, I would like to appeal to every part of your being and beg you, beg you, to make this madness stop.

You are a woman. I am a woman. I know how strong women are and how influential they can be in the presence of testosterone. You seem very kind to me. I'll be honest and tell you that I did not vote for your husband nor would I ever but that's not what this is about. It's about the deepest, most inherent respect for all of life to the extent that when threatened, demeans every single one of us, whether it be an American, an Iraqi, a Jew, a Christian or an atheist. It is about following the path that Jesus chose, non-violence and forgiveness. It is about doing to our neighbor as we would wish it done to us...the words and meanings of Jesus Christ are very clear. It is through His life and words that I wish to appeal to you as a mother, a wife and a nurse. We must, must stop the killing in whatever labeling it's given.

Please, Mrs. Bush, for the sake of all humankind, will you exert your lovingness, intelligence, righteousness in every area that you can and make sure that we do not bring more killing upon the earth God lovingly made for us?

We have a bond. Let us strengthen it and always let us keep our eyes toward the light and truth who's source is the holiest of Holies.

I know there will be a huge protest outside our White House this weekend. I am there in spirit as I cannot travel (probably on a no-fly list anyway because of my views) but were I to be there, I would want to hold your hand, look you in the eyes, probably with tears, and simply say, "Happy Mother's Day, Mrs. Bush, to you and to all the mothers of the world."

Thank you for reading. And may God bless you and your family.

A broken-hearted mother,

MF

WAKE UP, 31%. WAKE UP BEFORE HE BLOWS UP THE WORLD, OK? THE REST OF US WOULD LIKE TO STAY AROUND A WHILE LONGER. WE BELIEVE IN LIFE, LIBERTY AND THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS. AND IN TRUE FREEDOM, NOT THE ENSLAVEMENT TO AN IDEAOLOGUE.

How do you sleep at night, oh pious one?

THANK YOU, SENATOR LIEBERMAN.

Second Marine with Connecticut ties killed in Iraq this week
By Shelley K. Wong, Associated Press Writer | May 5, 2006

SUFFIELD, Conn. --The Defense Department on Friday confirmed the deaths of two U.S. Marines with Connecticut ties who were killed in combat in Iraq this week.

Cpl. Stephen R. Bixler, 20, of Suffield, was killed Thursday by enemy forces in Al Anbar province, the Department of Defense said Friday. He was based at Camp Lejeune, N.C., and assigned to the 2nd Reconnaissance Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force.

Capt. Brian S. Letendre, 27, of Woodbridge, Va., was stationed in Plainville with the 1st Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division. He died Wednesday in combat operations against enemy forces in Al Anbar province, military officials said.

Letendre was assigned to the Marine Forces Reserves inspector and instructor staff, the Defense Department said.

They were the 30th and 31st people with Connecticut ties to die in Iraq and Afghanistan since fighting began in Iraq in March 2003 and in Afghanistan in late 2001. Both men were on their second tours in Iraq, their families said.

News of Bixler's death came Thursday from his family.

"He was on a foot patrol, that's all we know right now," Bixler's father, Richard, said. "We were very proud of what he was doing. He would say a lot of positive things. He was totally committed to his mission."

Bixler was remembered in his hometown as an admired young man who excelled at academics and athletics in high school and enjoyed helping others.

An Eagle Scout, Bixler joined the Marines shortly after graduating from Suffield High School in 2003, his father said.

Kevin Goff, whose son was a close friend of Bixler, said Bixler was a genuinely nice person who made the choice early on in high school to join the military.

"Stephen was the ultimate person that just wanted a simple life and just wanted to do well for other people," Goff said. "He was the all-American kid who wanted to serve his country."

Under his high school yearbook picture, Bixler quoted legendary football coach Vince Lombardi: "I believe a man's finest hour is the moment he has worked his heart out and lies exhausted on the field of battle, victorious."

Gov. M. Jodi Rell ordered both the U.S. and Connecticut flags to be flown at half-staff until sundown on the day of Bixler's interment, which has not yet been scheduled.

Letendre was killed when a suicide vehicle exploded near him, his family in Virginia said Friday. It was his second tour of duty in Iraq.

"He wasn't ordered to go back to Iraq for another combat tour, and his unit was not going to deploy there, but he selflessly and courageously volunteered to go help train the Iraqi forces," his family said in a prepared statement.

"Brian just didn't feel right being back here in the U.S. while other Marines were serving overseas, and wanted to get back to the front lines as soon as he could," the statement read.

Letendre was born in California and raised in Woodbridge, Va., where he graduated from Potomac High School in 1996.

He joined the Marines in 2000 after graduating from Milligan College in Tennessee. After completing training, he chose to become an infantry officer. Before serving in Iraq, was deployed in Okinawa and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

He first went to Iraq as part of the initial invasion in 2003 and earned the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with a Combat "V" for valor. Letendre returned to train Iraqi forces about three weeks ago, his family said.

His survivors include his wife, Autumn, his 3-year-old son Dillon, his parents and two brothers. His wife and child live in Indianapolis and his parents live in Woodbridge, military officials said.

Letendre and his family lived in New Britain for about 18 months while he was stationed in Plainville, and Autumn Letendre worked as a teacher in Farmington, The Hartford Courant reported. The people who bought the Letendres' home six months ago said it was sold because Brian Letendre expected to be sent to Iraq and his wife wanted to stay with family in Indiana while he was overseas.

Letendre will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery.

Colbert's Coup

Stephen Colbert, entertaining at the annual White House Correspondents' Dinner this past Saturday evening, may be standing in the Unemployment line soon and with this administration on board, may face far worse.

In a scathing commentary ranging from the crimes of bushco missing very few of the reasons they're now at 32% approval rating, Colbert demonstrated complete lack of discrimination as he ripped the press a new you know what.

Initially, it was my sense that his timing was off or that perhaps he is much less well-known in DC circles because there certainly wasn't a great deal of laughter coming forth from this motley crew both in the audience and the head table. It's always such fun to see Boy george made a fool of, especially because normally, all we have to do is watch him. This time, a singular, faux conservative voice did that quite deftly while hopefully managing the attendees to turn inside and search for their consciences that evidently left them years ago. Don't hold your breath for that though.

But did you happen to notice that this public egging of the leader of the "free" world was virtually ignored by the same charlatans much of Colbert's rhetoric was directed to? Therefore, I think it belongs in the Non-News Daily and just for fun, I've thrown in a few more items.

Non-News Daily

1. Stephen Colbert's Fallen Flat Humor
2. Rush Limbaugh's Arrest (would WE have a job after that?)
3. Live coverage of the NYC peace protest of over 350,000
4. Fornigate featuring a sterling cast of horny Republicans
5. Bombs away in Las Vegas on June 2, 2006
6. Rumsfeld's heckuva job
7. Abramoff's two week vacation while under indictment
8. Ned Lamont's energizing CT while Joe whines.
9. What was in george's glass at the WHPC dinner?
10. Why has President Rove lost so much weight?

CIA leaks, new plans for pre-emptive strikes, strangers visiting nuclear energy plants, genocide of Medicare recipents, economic lies and distortions, anonymous dead soldiers we don't want in our beautiful minds, Katrina...but alas, the list is too long. When you dismiss 750 laws as reported in the Boston Globe this weekend, it's awfully hard to keep up. But, you get my drift.

We don't mind! We really, really, don't mind or seem to care about WHAT that goddam piece of paper, that stupid Constitution says even though it's built right into it that we have the means to rid ourselves of this blight upon the earth. We've got our SUVS and our dwindling double incomes, we've got Survivor (I so love the irony of THAT one), the Sopranos, and American Idol to keep us entertained and cemented into the status quo that we just love.

Stephen Colbert? I'd like to shake your hand - the hand of a real American who's not afraid to speak truth to power and truth to morons. That's what courage is all about. But sir, please watch your back. Nothing is beyond this madding crowd. Be safe...and be strong. And thank you.
